Subject: ROUND of 16

Mexico deserved to win. This Netherlands team plays really ugly football.

Mexico wasn't any better and didn't play nice football either. It was too damn hot to play nice football.

And I don't care if the Netherlands play ugly football or not. In the past we played the most attractive offensive football but never ever won the World Cup. If we can win it with less attractive football, then I really don't care ;)

Please stop talking about that, in first half Robben deserved a penalty, a 200% penalty and did not get one, so justice after all.
Hate people that that are looking at 1 minute of the game and forget about the rest of the game.

I would be the same if i told you that Uruguay does not deserve anything because of Suarez his behavior or his goals ( without him Uruguay would be the ugliest playing team in this world cup, with him also ;)) There are more players in that team or not?

What i mean is that if you look at the whole thing The Netherlands deserved to win this match and
Uruguay is not Suarez only.

The netherlands deserved a penalty (the one in the first half was 100% a foul, but very hard to see for the referee, the one in the end was a foul as well even though less obvious).

Still, Robbens behaviour adding a looooot of theater (like many others as well, remember Mueller against Pepe) should be punished as well with a yellow card.

Unsportsmanlike behaviour by trying to get an advantage in any way should be banned, it's a real pain.

I understand Robben doesn't win a popularity contest with such behaviour, but sometimes you need to make it a bit easier for the referee to spot a foul, especially in the 94th minute of the 1/8 finals of the World Cup with a 1-1 score. It's not as if he was trying to get Marquez a card or something, that's in my opinion a lot worse.

He had another big opportunity to get a penalty in the second half by the way, which everyone seems to forget. Marquez made a similar mistake but Robben decided to jump over his leg and tried to level the game (didn't work out as Ochoa saved). Had he decided to not jump over Marquez' leg (which would have been a viable choice, as it was a bigger foul than the one in the 94th minute), then Marquez would have received a red card and we would have had a penalty 15-20 minutes earlier already. So it's not all unsportsmanlike behaviour with Robben.

My point is not so much about whether it's sportsmanlike behavior or not, but rather that it can be counterproductive: my first impression was obvious dive. Then, with replays, close-ups, etc, yes, there is contact. Luckily for him, the referee saw the foul, but I think his theatre makes it harder, not easier, to get a penalty ;)
2014-06-30 12:25:21
it's a vicious circle

referees know that he dives sometimes

therefore Robben makes it more 'visible' if he really gets fouled because he's afraid the ref will think that he is diving if he simply goes down

the more Robben 'tries' to show that he is fouled, the more theatrical it gets and seems like a typical dive :p

I agree. At first I thought it was a schwalbe, I needed the replay to change my mind.

I see it as a half-dive. There was contact so the ref's decision can be defended. But if the referee had not blown the whistle, I would not have complained either. It was very light and Robben falls too theatrical.

It was a mistake of Marquez, because Robben could never had reached that ball anymore.
I guess it was too late for Marquez to pull back...

But let's not forget, it was already 1-1 and the Dutch were much better at that point.
We had a high chance of winning in extra time.
And I'm super-happy the boys didn't have to play another half hour in that heat.
Respect to both teams for the energy they put into the pitch.
You can say a lot about Robben, but the way he kept running the whole game was phenomenal...

WOW!... we finally agree on something.
On the first half there was a penalty *2for Netherlands that was not given. The last penalty seems to be a kind of perspective. For me it was a penalty but the falling was really theatrical.
So far I think Nethelands won this one fairly...
The problem with Robben is that if he keeps falling like that, referees will be more suspicious in the future.

if Germany would not play as 12 in field maybe Algeria would score something
2014-06-30 22:53:16
so... we have a "the end" for the story...

and... despite what some (likely most) of the Uruguayans said...

"Luis Suárez apologises to Giorgio Chiellini for World Cup bite"
http://www.theguardian.com/football/2014/jun/30/luis-suarez-apologises-giorgio-chiellini-bite

"Suárez pidió perdón por haber mordido al defensa en el partido con Italia"

Have you seen the 'apology'?

It's a joke. I'm 100% sure it was written by PR people or by Liverpool's lawyers.
2014-06-30 23:01:45
and... despite what all the Uruguayans said...

Not all.
2014-06-30 23:02:55
and... despite what all the Uruguayans said...

psst not all of us said the same thing, hence your phrase should read:

SOME (maybe MOST, I concede that) uruguayans said...

I partially agree with you (except with the "hate people" part, and Neth deserving to win, though that last one is subjective)
We were the ugliest playing team in this WC, with the only exception being the england game.
