Subject: Buying a laptop .....

2020-06-10 13:21:14
Charles Hill to All
I entered the maze of laptops :/

I think I have reduced the number of laptops that can do what I want to do with it, but there are so many options.

This is what I have choosen:

screen: 14 or 15 inch (but most of the time connected to my flatscreen)
processor: Intel Core i5
RAM: 8 or 16
Videocard: NIVIDIA GeForce
Powerful enough for video editing (3D gaming is not my thing)
SSD: 257GB to 1TB
storage capacity: 512GB to 1TB
Connections: HDMI
Accu: more then 10 hours
Ofcourse Full HD (I watch many movies and series)

These are the 3 option that I get:

Acer Aspire - A515-54G-56GT
Acer Swift 3 SF315
HP Pavilion 15-cs2615nd

Am I missing something? Should I go for a different videocard like Intel, AMD or ARM. More RAM, or something else?

You should consider also the MSI PS63 modern.

They are very aesthetic and versatile, cost around 1000 euros.

My max for now is 850, but an extra 150 is an option if the laptop is clearly a better one.

If you are seeking a balanced option ı would go for the HP.
If you are more into the performance beside of the durability Acer Swift is also a good one .

Aspire 3 is not available in TR . So ı don't have enough information .

I deleted your thread from Sk international in case you miss it.. :) For the topic itself I won't say anything as I'm so out of the whole scene.

no problem, was on the wrong forum the first time :)

For the topic itself I won't say anything as I'm so out of the whole scene.

Well, the more you get into it, the more confusing it seems to become ..... :O

If you only change the prevert videocard version (not even manufacturer), you get a completely new list of recommanded laptops .... pffff

And then you think, okay, I think I understand, they start about ports and connetions (also for the future) and WIFI 5 - WiFI 802.11 (G, N, AC), and wrong accu info from laptop manufacturers so you need to find objective reviews ... object reviews and internet is not very common :/

The maze is getting larger very quickly :P

So please help 'tweakers.com', great, option compair laptops .... even more info and new questions why this and why that !!!

How I feel right now ..........................

And wrong range ;) i7 and i9 with those powerful graphic cards are way too powerful (and expensive) for my needs.

Ya, i use my laptop as both working tool and gaming PC, therefore i went for high end laptop.
Its also important to know how often you want to change the laptop. I have mine for 3,5 years and its still powerful.

You need to define what you will be doing on the laptop and what you plan to do in the future :-).

I'm still using my Acer Aspire (slightly upgraded with solid state and extra ram), but it's a laptop from april 2009.
I mainly use it for sokker, youtube or websearching (No hardcore gaming), but it still runs considerally smooth...

I now have 12 laptops in my list that are all mostly what I'm looking for, 6 of them are Acer.

One of those is an older laptop that can not be bought new at the stores I normally would shop, only secondhand. That is an Acer Aspire 7.

I had Acer Aspire before(2013-2016) too, was a great laptop but the performance went down after 3 years, dunno why.

Now I found the Acer Aspire 7 A715-74G-53YM, Intel Core i5-9300H and with a graphic card GeForce GTX 1650 4GB, but 'only SSD 512 GB.

Also to the list :/

And also the Acer Aspire 5 A515-54G-79EH ....

Oh, and I already had the Acer Aspire 5 A515-54G-56GT

Price of all 3 is 849 euro.

It needed a solid state... Makes a huge difference!
After 3 years, your hard drive will be full of junk and reduces the processing speed with around 50%
The junk (mainly stuff within your program files and often non-removable or buried too deep) get themselves within your system drive, and because it ain't a solid state, it cannot process it all...

I has(had) SSD and i reinstalled windows. I still keep it as backup laptop.

What do you want to do with the laptop? If you answer that we will be able to help you better :-)
