2018 Winter Olympics

The 2018 Winter Olympics, officially known as the XXIII Olympic Winter Games and commonly known as PyeongChang 2018, is a major international multi-sport event scheduled to take place from 9 to 25 February 2018 in Pyeongchang County, South Korea.

The elected host city was announced on 6 July 2011 by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) after the 123rd IOC Session in Durban, South Africa. Pyeongchang won its bid on the first round of voting, receiving more votes than both Munich, Germany and Annecy, France combined.

These will be South Korea's second Olympic Games and its first Winter Games; Seoul hosted the Summer Games in 1988. Pyeongchang will be the third Asian city to host the Winter Games; the first two were in Japan, at Sapporo (1972) and Nagano (1998).

PyeongChang

PyeongChang 2018's vision for the 2018 Games is to offer the Olympic Movement and the world of winter sports New Horizons - a legacy of new growth and new potential never seen before. With PyeongChang’s strategic position in Asia, and its access to a young and fast growing youth market, the 2018 Olympic Winter Games will no doubt expose new generations of potential athletes to the power of winter sport.

funny fact:

dude that is on croatia bob sleigh team went with me on the same year/class on university (first half of 2000 decade), cool dude.. originally he was 100m and 200m sprinter, he tried to get to some major tournaments but things didn't go his way..

then he saw opportunity in bob and well, he succeeded..

similar to that "cool runnings" movie, jamaican dude that went on bob sleigh olympic games XD

yea, I guess they need a runner.. they also asked my best friend to join them and he was also training in the same athletic club but he was.. damn, can't recall the word for it.. he threw spear/disc and that heavy ass metal ball XDD (sry, it's late, my brain is on strike)..

and he was about 140kg, strong like an elephant so he was perfect for inertia XD.. he never did accept the invitation though..

Didn't know Belgium also has a bob team and I have no idea how good or bad they are.

That's part of the fun of watching the Olympics, all kind of new things. Sports I see once in every 4 years, like snowboarding, freestyle skiing, etc. Speed skating won't have many surprises, I know most names. But skiing is all new for me, in the past I watched it a lot on tv and new all names and winners, now I don't so that's also fun.

A pity there is so much cross-country skiing. It's boring and way too many days. And with a gun it becomes a completely new sport, even more 'cross-country' days :/
